Google’s New Policy On AI-Generated Content

On Aug 28, 2023, Google’s Product Ratings policies will be updated.  Google’s announcement comes with a new policy on ai-generated content. The  latest announcement comes from their blog Policy update: Product Rating policies, Google’s new policy on automated content states:

We don’t allow reviews that are primarily generated by an automated program or artificial intelligence application. If you have identified such content, it should be marked as spam in your feed using the <is_spam> attribute.

Basically, Google has indicated that any ai-generated content in reviews should be labeled as spam, Google has also provided more guidance on how they will enforce their policies, which may include a suspension on the account.

From this new policy, we learn that Google is encouraging brands to limit ai-generated content and maintain human-created content for reviews, which could eventually become a Google-wide policy.

As much as you are finding ai-generated content helpful, please do not rely on them fully for your online content, as it may harm you in the long run, as we can see from this new policy.  Google’s goal is to provide the user with the most accurate and relevant review that is genuine.
