Your Social & Video Content Is a Measurable Search Channel

Google has made platform properties available to everyone in Search Console, and it quietly reframes how marketers should think about social and video content.

What changed

Platform properties let you see how your posts on Instagram, TikTok, X, and YouTube perform inside Google Search, Discover, and Google News. When Google first announced the feature earlier this month, access was limited. As of today, it is rolling out globally to every Search Console user.

Alongside the rollout, Google published a new guide on analyzing social and video content performance. It walks through the insights now available in Search Console and how to read them, whether you are a content creator, a social media manager, or an SEO lead.

Why it matters

For years, social and video sat in one measurement world and search sat in another. A TikTok video’s reach lived in TikTok analytics. Its appearance in a Google Search result or a Discover feed was invisible to the teams optimizing for it. Platform properties close that gap.

The practical shift is this: content you publish off your own domain is now a trackable part of your search footprint. A YouTube video that surfaces in Search, an Instagram post that lands in Discover, an X post that appears in Google News, all of it becomes data you can actually see and act on.

That has real consequences for how teams work. Social and SEO have often been run as separate functions with separate goals. When the same Search Console view shows how social and video content performs in search surfaces, the case for coordinating those efforts stops being theoretical.

What to do with it

If you manage social or video content, connect your platform properties and start with the basics: which posts are earning search impressions, which surfaces they show up on, and which queries or topics they are being pulled into. That baseline tells you where your off-site content is already doing search work, and where a small optimization could do more.

For brands investing in short-form video and creator content, this is the reporting layer that has been missing. It turns “social probably helps our discoverability” into something you can measure and defend.

Platform properties are live now in Search Console. The new performance guide is worth a read before you dig into the data.
