Starting July 10, 2025, Instagram content will begin appearing directly in Google search results — a big change for anyone using the platform to reach a wider audience.
According to Instagram, “Your public photos and videos may soon appear in search engine results”. And it’s official — Google is now indexing Instagram content, including Reels, carousels, videos, images, and captions, making it easier for people to discover your posts without even opening the app.
What’s happening?
Google will now display Instagram posts in search results — but only from public professional accounts (those set as Business or Creator profiles). If your account is eligible, your content will automatically become searchable unless you opt out in your privacy settings.
Content types that may show up:
- Reels
- Photo or video posts
- Carousels
- Public profile info
Why this matters for creators and businesses
If you’re a creator, small business, or social media manager, this opens up a new way for people to find your content — not just on Instagram, but across the web. Your content won’t be limited to your followers or people scrolling the app.
Captions are more important than ever
With Google now crawling Instagram, the keywords you use in your captions can directly impact whether your content shows up in search. That means writing meaningful, descriptive captions (not just emojis or short phrases) could help your posts surface when someone is searching for that topic online.
Think of it like this: Instagram is becoming part of the wider web, and your words now matter just as much as your visuals.
You can still opt out
If you’d rather your content stay within the Instagram app, you have control. Head to your account settings, go to the Visibility section, and turn off the option for search engines to access your posts.
