5 Tips to Increase Online Sales

With any business website, there’s always room for improvement. It may look pretty, but if its content fails to increase online sales, what’s the point? How can you improve conversion rates without spending a fortune on advertising? There are numerous techniques that website publishers use today to increase online sales. The following five methods are easy to implement, but can be highly effective.

1. Offer fewer products or services per page

If you have too many offers on one page, it’s hard to truly focus on the benefits of each product or service. Promoting just one product – or a set of related products – on one page has been shown to increase online sales by promoting the benefits of each product more intensely. Just remember to provide clear navigational links to the other products on your site.

2. Include product benefit in headline

One of the simplest ways to increase online sales is with a well-written headline. Consider the following: “Eazyread: The Amasing New Wireless E-book Reader.” This headline merely states what the product is. If you really want to increase online sales, show readers how your product or service solves a problem, and highlight one of its major benefits. A better headline would be: “Eazyread Is Not Only Smaller Than Other E-readers, It Can Store Twice as Much Data.”

3. Promote your credibility

Credibility is a sure-fire way to increase online sales. If possible, include customer testimonials on every page. The testimonials should highlight how a product or service benefited the customer, and include a genuine customer name. Having your contact details on every page can also strengthen your credibility and help increase online sales.

4. Introduce urgency into your copy

By creating a sense of urgency, your visitors are more likely to feel compelled to buy sooner rather than later. For example, offer a price discount for a limited period of time. Or if people make a purchase before a certain date, offer additional products for free. For maximum effect, and to really help increase online sales, promote this sense of urgency near your calls to action, after they have been convinced by your opening copy.

5. Change your tone of voice

Most consumers don’t want to feel like they’re being sold to all the time. That’s why avoiding any references to buying or selling in the primary content of a web page can help to increase online sales. Prove how you can solve readers’ problems first, then you can really start promoting. Try to avoid any references to “sale,” “cost,” and “buying,” especially above the fold (before a user scrolls down). First, concentrate on the benefits that your products or services provide.

In a nutshell…

These are just a few simple techniques to help you increase online sales. Many businesses still make the mistake of promoting a website that essentially fails to convert visitors into customers. That’s why it’s important to try new and different marketing strategies to see which ones work best for you. If you really want to increase online sales, regular website testing will show which options work best for you.
